| My art is a continuation of my greater life. Planting, harvesting, and preparing food is an endless inspiration to me. Spending time with my family is the best possible way to be present. Walking daily and observing the seasons' effects on our land, lake, and the nearby scenery...from all this my art is born. I believe that using an object that contains marks and memories of the maker's hand can give a sensory, soulful, human connection from which our technical, busy, fast-paced lives can benefit. |

My functional terra cotta, slip decorated work has a joyful, playfulness that is intuitive and immediate but also contemplated and edited in a thoughtful manner. Combinations of relaxed patterns, landscapes, and drawings adorn the surface of my forms that somehow couple elegance with an unassuming rusticity. I want my work to be a modern counterpart to the humble peasant slipware of days past; decorative and not too labored, special but not so precious that it is beyond ordinary function. My pots, I hope, will supply a subtle but powerful resonance in one's day. |
